NASHVILLE, Tenn. – everyone's got a theory about what happened to be an award-winning Country Music Association Entertainer of the year award.

Martina McBride thought it should go to the artists who create strong relationships with fans. Jason Aldean and Kenny Chesney puts emphasis on the back of the end-people in the seats in their concerts. Ronnie Dunn summarizes this way: "a lot of politics."

Brad Paisley, entertainers from, thinking this is about giving fans the most for their money.

"This is the format in which we recognize entertaining, and I love it that we are not on top of that," said Paisley. "There are some aspects of the award (about) the laser over the crowd, swinging from a rope, and I think it is kind of cool that we all like the dancing monkeys are willing to go that extra mile to entertain."

While somewhat specific, CMA guidelines for selecting a performer in is still open to interpretation. They read: "this award is for a bill that featured the greatest competence in all aspects of areas of entertainment. Voters should give consideration not only for the performance of the recording, but also for in-person performance, staging, public acceptance, attitude, leadership, and overall contribution to the country music image. "
